Five held after cocaine-in-shrimps bust at airport

Five person are in custody after the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit intercepted a shipment of over 50 kilograms of cocaine concealed in frozen shrimp at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri yesterday.

Stabroek News understands that the shipment was headed to Trinidad and Tobago with JFK International Airport, New York being the final destination.

The discovery was made when officers were doing a routine check on the cargo prior to it being loaded at approximately 13:30pm.

This newspaper was informed that individual packets of six to seven kilos were in between the frozen seafood. The owner of the business being used to ship the shrimp located in La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara along with the persons who took the shrimp to be shipped were taken into custody.
