A father of two was killed on Sunday night after he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a utility pole at Borlam turn, Corentyne.

Dead is Kelvin Balgobin, 29, of Lot 126, Williamsburg, Corentyne and fitter machinist of GuySuCo’s Albion estate.

Police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker said, “Investigations revealed that Balgobin was riding a motorcycle along the roadway when he lost control of it and collided with a utility pole.”

It was also reported that Balgobin was going to see his children.

His mother Kamaldai Balgobin said her son left home sometime after 5 pm, informing her that he was going to the “pool” referring to the Albion estate senior staff pool.

The distraught mother related that around 11 pm she received a telephone call and was given the tragic news about her only child. She quickly contacted his cousin who went to the accident scene and took him to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kamaldai Balgobin who was trying to come to grips with what occurred, said that when she saw her son’s body in the morgue, there were several injuries to his head.

Balgobin, according to his mother, had only returned to the country on Friday, May 29 after a month’s vacation in the United States. She said he had been employed at the sugar corporation for the past ten years.

Yesterday colleagues and family and friends visited his home to offer their sympathies to the family. His father was in total disbelief and kept saying to persons who offered sympathies that he could not believe it.

Only last Monday a biker from the West Coast Berbice died at the same Borlam turn. A fisherman had discovered Deonarine Ramsarran, called ‘Blacks,’ 20, of Bush Lot, floating in a trench. He was partly submerged along with his brother’s motorcycle.

This area of the Corentyne road is well known for serious and fatal road accidents over the years. The turn has been defined by many road users as a deadly turn. Road users have been calling for road lights to be installed on the Borlam –Palmyra public road.

Balgobin is survived by his parents, children aged 2 and 7 years old along with other relatives and friends.
