In-law to face charge over Kaneville fatal stabbing

An in-law of Jason Ramotar, the man who police say was fatally stabbed during an attempt to break into his cousin’s house at Kaneville, is expected to be charged with murder today.

Ramotar’s relatives told Stabroek News that they were told that the cousin-in-law of the dead man, is to be charged today.

The fatal altercation between the men occurred after a night of partying at the Kaneville home of Ramotar’s cousin, Jimmy Thomas.

Thomas had said the electricity and phone lines for the house were cut before he was informed that someone was in the yard. “By the time I come out, I see he deh on the ground and me brother-in-law done bore he and I see the rest run up de road and gone,” he had said.

According to a police statement, Ramotar, 23, of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, was stabbed to his throat when he and four other men attempted to break into a home at Kaneville, at around 3AM on Sunday. He was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

However, Ramotar’s relatives who were present at the party, were baffled at the assertion that he would try to break and enter his cousin’s home, which he had just left, particularly since he had appeared to be drunk earlier in the night.
