Charlestown woman refused bail on ganja trafficking charge

A young mother was yesterday refused bail after she appeared in a city court to answer to a charge of possession of ganja for trafficking.

Latoya Fraser, 27, of Charlestown denied that on June 5, at Georgetown, she had 28 grammes of cannabis in her possession for trafficking.

No further details about the charge were presented Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who presided over her arraignment at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 5.

Attorney Mark Waldron made an application for bail to be granted while noting that Fraser and another woman were riding a motorcycle when they were intercepted by police. A search was conducted, he said, and the ganja was found. Waldron also told the court that the other person is still in police custody and only his client was charged.

Bail was refused and Fraser is expected to make her next court appearance on June 30. As she was escorted out of the courtroom by a police officer, the woman broke down in tears while shouts were heard from her relatives telling her not to cry and that everything would be alright.
