Transparency Institute elects new board of directors

Calvin Bernard was on Monday elected as the President of the new Board of Directors of the Transparency Institute Guyana Inc. (TIGI) for the year 2015 to 2016.

In addition, Ayana McCalman was elected First Vice President; Aruna Budhram, Second Vice President; Dhanmattie Sohai, Secretary; and Sara Bharrat, Christopher Ram, Harri Persaud Beharry, Troy Thomas and Compton Meerabux were elected as directors. Ramesh Seebarran who is not a director, will also serve as Treasurer to the institution. A press statement from TIGI said the new board, which was elected at the Annual General Meeting, will lead TIGI in its mission during the following year. “This is a diverse group of individuals who have all excelled in their respective fields and who share a mutual interest in eradicating corruption,” it said.

TIGI also expressed its sincerest gratitude to past directors Gino Persaud, Esther McIntosh, Arif Bulkan and George Fraser for their continuous efforts and commitment to the organisation’s mission.

TIGI promotes transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels of society by increasing citizens’ awareness of ethical standards and practices in doing business and the real cost of corruption.

TIGI said it continues to work on building a Guyana that is relatively free of corruption so that all citizens can derive the full benefits of the country’s resources. It said its vision is a country in which the activities of government, businesses, non-governmental organizations and citizens are conducted in an open, fair and just manner.
