Bandit dies after shoot-out on Middleton St, man injured

At about 2320h. last night, the police say that a group of persons, including a policeman and a member of the Guyana Defence Force, were at the Butcher Pool Hall at Middleton Street, Georgetown, when two men approached and discharged rounds in their direction.

The police say that Paul Chow, 31 years, of Railway Line, Kitty, who was in the group, was hit to his chest and the right side of his jaw.

The policeman and the soldier returned fire and one of the armed men was hit about his body, while his accomplice managed to escape.

The man, who is so far unidentified, was taken to the GPHC where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is at the GPHC Mortuary.

He is of African-Guyanese descent with dreadlocks, appears to be in his 40s, fair complexion, about 5’9” in height, medium build and has a tattoo on his back marked “Spine Doctor”.

Chow has been admitted to hospital.

The Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the incident.
