Awareness campaign to be launched on local gov’t authorities

The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) is seeking quotations for a public awareness campaign on local government authorities (LGAs) as preparations intensify for the staging of local government elections.

In an advertisement in the July 5 Sunday Stabroek, Gecom said it is seeking quotations for 71 local authorities billboards. The LGAs encompass municipalities, neighbourhood democratic councils and constituencies. These billboards will be 15 ft by 15 ft and 18 ft in height.

Quotations are also being sought for 585 constituency billboards which would be 10 ft by 10 ft and 12 ft in height.

The advertisement said that information about the LGAs and their respective constituencies can be accessed on the notice page of its website at www.gecom.org.gy

Quotations must be tendered on or before Friday, July 17, 2015 to Keith Lowenfield, Chief Election Officer, Guyana Elections Commission, 31 Fort Street, Kingston, George-town.

The APNU+AFC administration has signalled that it will name a date for long-awaited local government elections before the end of 100 days from when it assumed office on May 16, 2015. Local government elections have not been held since 1994. They are supposed to be held every three years.
