CPL slammed over security service for Guyana leg

The Guyana Association of Private Security Organisations (GAPSO) has blasted the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for the security service it has contracted for the Guyana leg of the 20/20 cricket series saying it is not licensed.

In a press release yesterday, GAPSO stated that they were dissatisfied and shocked with the company that was selected to provide security at the Providence National Stadium.

The private security firm has been identified as Global Security Service.

GAPSO quoted the Private Security Act 2009, which stated that “….no person or company shall commence or continue to carry on the business of private security service in Guyana without obtaining a license from the Controlling Authority”, highlighting that through research and background checks, it has found out that Global Security Service was not authorized by the Guyana Police Force to carry out private security services.

GASPO stated that only its members which include: Banks DIH, Security Alliance, Kalibur, Massy Security, Integrated Security Services, Amazon Security, Brans Security, MMC Security, GEB Security, Correia’s Secu-rity, Federal Management Systems, Sentinel Secu-rity, West Demerara Gold, John Fernandes Ltd, Bank of Guyana, Glenkiev, Guyoil and GNIC are authorized to carry out private security in the country as they all have been trained and qualified by City and Guilds of London in Evacuations, Fire Safety and Crowd Control among other areas.

Stabroek News contacted the public relations coordinator of the CPL Narvini Dewnauth, who said that while she is aware of the press release and claims being made by GAPSO, she was not in a position to make any comment.

Stabroek News contacted George Vyphuis, who is in charge of security for CPL, who said that he was unaware that such claims were being made by GAPSO and was unable to make a comment.
