PPP meets visiting UN team on Venezuela border controversy

People’s Progressive Party (PPP) General Secretary Clement Rohee on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, led a delegation to meet with the United Nations (UN) Mission, dispatched by Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, to Guyana to discuss options for peacefully resolving the Guyana/ Venezuela border controversy.

A release from Freedom House yesterday said that the PPP delegation also included Gail Teixeira, Member of Parliament and Inter-national Secretary of the Party.

The UN Mission apprised the PPP Delegation of the purpose of their visit. The release said that the PPP informed of its position on the controversy and other general matters related to the protection of Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The UN Mission included Chief, Americas Division in the Department of Political Affairs, Martha Doggett, Political Affairs Officer, Marylene Smeets, Legal Officer from the UN Office of Legal Affairs, Diana Taratukhina and Senior Mediation Expert from the Office of the Special Envoy for Syria, Sven Koopmans.
