Miss World Guyana Lisa Punch wings out to Sanya, China on Friday, where she will join contestants from around the world to vie for the coveted Miss World crown and title.
According to a press release, prior to leaving for the actual competition events—Beauty with a Purpose, Multimedia, Sports and Fitness, Talent and Top Model—Miss Guyana did a media round with the ‘Man-in-the-street’ in Georgetown. That video is available on the Miss Guyana World Facebook page, which Guyanese can access to follow and encourage her to victory, as well as via Twitter, and the Miss World newly designed website: www.missworld. com/contestants/Guyana. Soon, it said, the Miss World voting app will become available and urges Guyanese to get ready to vote.
This year’s contest is being held in the picturesque Sanya, which is located on the southern end of Hainan Island; a place famous for its beach resorts.
The Beauty Crown Sanya, China, an iconic 7-star hotel spreading over 500 acres of land, is the venue for a number of the preliminary competitions and events.
The contest itself is being held in the appropriately named Beauty Crown Grand Theatre, the release revealed.
Meanwhile, the release noted that Punch is following “a strong tradition of Guyanese beauty, talent and purpose” and cited Umblita Van Sluytman’s representation in 1966 and Rafieya Husain’s last year. It also referred to Punch’s talent, her entry in ABC’s “Rising Star” show, and her efforts to prevent teenage suicide through her NGO – Prevention of Teenage Suicide (POTS).
Guyanese at home and in the diaspora are therefore urged to rally round Lisa Punch once again, particularly once online voting opens.
