Mechanic accused of stealing parts from customer’s bus

A North Ruimveldt mechanic was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail by a city court after he was accused of selling parts from a vehicle a customer left at his shop.

Lawrence Moore, 39, of North Ruimveldt Gardens, was yesterday accused of fraudulently converting $218,000 in car parts belonging to Carolann Barker. Among the items mentioned were a computer box, a front light, a dashboard clock and a transmission. Moore denied the allegation.

The prosecution said that they had no problem with bail being granted to the accused and proceeded to explain the facts surrounding the matter.

According to reports, in September 2014, Barker had taken her bus to Moore’s shop for it to be repaired but when she went to uplift it sometime later, she discovered that some items were missing. The complainant then made a report to the police and Moore was subsequently arrested and charged.

Magistrate Judy Latchman placed the accused on $100,000 bail and adjourned the matter to November 30th for statements.
