Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo dead at 82 – WSJ

ALBANY, N.Y., (Reuters) – Mario Cuomo, the three-time governor of New York who turned down several invitations to seek the U.S. presidency, has died at the age of 82, The Wall Street Journal reported today.

The circumstances of his death, which came on the day that his son, Andrew Cuomo, delivered inaugural speeches in Manhattan and Buffalo for his own second term as governor, were not immediately clear.

Officials had said earlier the elder Cuomo was unable to attend the swearing-in proceedings due to poor health.

Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy posted a Twitter message offering his condolences to the current governor “and his family on the loss” of his father, adding, “His legacy endures and is felt today.”
