PM’s language is civil

Dear Editor,

Reflecting on letters to the press by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds it has struck me that his language is usually tempered and devoid of invective and ad hominem references. The PM unlike some of his colleagues, past and present, has not used the ‘cuss down’ template to get his message across. It maybe that because the PM is of the Civic component (leader?) that there is a display of civility. Not necessarily so; for other politicians, past and present, have also manifested civility in their public discourses.

It was I believe John F Kennedy who said “Civility is not a sign of weakness,” a view I share. What the lack of civility signifies however is another matter.

As we enter further into what has been called the silly season I hope that ‘civility’ and all that it connotes including decency and ethical behaviour will attain an overwhelming majority status, and that at the end of the season it can provide our country with the promise of a better tomorrow.

Yours faithfully,
Rashleigh E Jackson
