The first 24 hours after a murder are crucial

Dear Editor,

It is said by the experts in the field of crime-fighting that the first 24 hours are crucial. After that, the odds weigh heavily against either a timely or successful conclusion. It is now almost a week since the execution of Courtney Crum-Ewing. That is an eternity.

From all indications – and local history itself – the odds now seem insurmountable that this most disturbing matter will end with a clear-cut resolution. If this turns out to be the case, then the late Mr Crum-Ewing can be then linked, lamentably, to others gone by in a similar mysterious way. Satyadeo Sawh comes to mind right away from about a decade ago.

And if the same dead end is reached today, then Courtney Crum-Ewing can become the Walter Rodney of our times, in that the nation might have to wait 50 years for the truth to come to light.

Still, given the high-level, high-powered directives issued to get to the bottom of this affair, this time and this story might unfold differently. We wait to see, and to be enlightened.

Yours faithfully,

GHK Lall
