Medical assistance cheque was returned to Ministry of Health

Dear Editor,

Your Sunday Stabroek of March 29, highlighted the beneficiaries of Government Medical Assistance for 2012-2013, but I do have concerns regarding the information shown against my name, Winston George, on page 2c under Region 4.

  1. If the Winston George listed is indeed me (I have no reason to doubt that it is) then I wish to inform you that the GBTI Bank Draft No.63 – 768 / 660FL – 205, valued at US$1,300.00 was returned to the Ministry of Health after my doctors (both foreign and local) determined, with the benefit of two subsequent MRIs, that no immediate invasive intervention for the “Brain Tumor” was necessary.
  2. The column titled “Total” reflected $10,850.00; I am not sure what that was about, particularly since it appears to have no correlation with the cheque amount.
  3. The value of the cheque was US$1,300.00 at the exchange rate of G$200.00 to US$1.00; the $9,950.00 increase is understandable if a slightly higher buying rate is used.
  4. Your information source may have used the ministry’s approved list of beneficiaries. However I am concerned that after almost three years and a written notification to the Ministry of Health, this is still featuring against my name.

In the circumstances, it would help if subsequent to your verification an appropriate publication is made.

 Yours faithfully,

Winston A George
