Uncertain whether public corporate executives on list would have to resign

Dear Editor,

With reference to SN’s letter of Tuesday, April 14, captioned ‘Rajendra Singh and Badrie Persaud should resign their substantive posts immediately’, the prime ministerial candidate, as Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs was required to resign. The other incumbents of posts listed in the National Estimates approved by Parliament are Head, Presidential Secretariat and Permanent Secretary, Public Service Ministry. These would be positions from which resignations would be expected if nominated for political offices.

It is uncertain whether this requirement is applicable to public corporate executives who do not fall into the category of public servants.

Yours faithfully,
E B John
