Details sought on value-added jobs for Guyanese from Marriott Hotel

Dear Editor,

I note that the PPP will launch their 2015 election Manifesto on Saturday 25 April at the Marriott Hotel. Bharrat Jagdeo says that the Manifesto will ‘outline our vision for taking Guyana forward’ (Guyana Chronicle, 23 April).

The PPP have been in power for 22 years and I’ve not seen a report card which scores quantitatively their achievements against any of the electoral promises made in their previous manifestos in 2006 and 2011.

However I look forward to reading their speeches after Saturday’s launch. I look forward to learning how many Guyanese companies received contracts to supply goods and services, including pipework, electrical circuits and cabling, furniture, paintings and other works of art, drapes, etc., during the construction and equipment phases of the now-opened Marriott Hotel. I look forward to the President’s, or former President’s, estimate of how many and what kinds of value-adding jobs were created during the estimated $12 billion-and-counting taxpayers-funded building and equipping of the Marriott Hotel. I look forward to specifics on how this PPP flagship investment of taxpayers monies has created and will continue to create value-adding jobs for Guyanese.

Yours faithfully,
Janette Bulkan
