Muslim community congratulates President Granger

Dear Editor,

The Anna Catherina Islamic Complex (ACIC) and The Guyana United Sadr Islamic Anjuman (GUSIA) on behalf of the wider Muslim community express our heartfelt congratulations to Mr David A Granger, as the 8th elected President of the Republic of Guyana. In choosing him, the Guyanese people have chosen the path of change and optimism. At a time when the nation is so divided, the expression of faith in the future is placed in the hands of President Granger and his government. It is now up to him to bring about the unity that is so badly needed in our country.

At this time when we must face the enormous challenges in this beautiful country of ours, President Granger’s election raises immense hope for the establishment of a united Guyana and the preservation of peace and prosperity as well as the enviable diversity of the peoples of this great nation.

We call on him to be a President for every Guyanese; those who voted for him and those who voted against him. His extension of a hand to the opposition party will be most welcome to take our nation forward. His leadership remains vital to meeting the tremendous challenges: peace and security and basically living the dream of a people who are united by race, religion and ethnicity. Guyanese are prepared to work together to build our country. The Muslim community will work and support President Granger’s government and pledge our contribution to nation building. As an honorary member of ACIC, we are doubly proud of his assumption to the highest office of the land and we are committed as a group to remain involved in the process of nation building by holding the government accountable for the decisions and the implementation of all the promises made during the campaign period.

 Yours faithfully,
Hakeem Khan
President General
