Time to rebuild the Umana Yana

Dear Editor,

In 1972, the Umana Yana was built in 80 days by members of the Wai Wai community (see SN article by Maya Trotz, Sept15, 2014). The Umana Yana is a National Monument that all Guyanese cherish. It symbolizes our concern for inclusion and collective responsibility and it is part of the foundation on which ‘one people, one nation, one destiny’ is built. Time to rebuild the Umana Yana on its original spot; it is time.

Yours faithfully,
C Kenrick Hunte
