Shortlists for Guyana Prize likely late July

Dear Editor,

We announced some time ago that the Guyana Prize for Literature had shifted its schedules, starting with an extension of the closing date for entries for the 2014 Prize, awarded in 2015. The original schedule was affected first by the prolonged industrial action and strike at the University of Guyana which forced the new closing date, then by the need to avoid the dates of the General Elections.

In 2015, the two Prizes are to be awarded – the Guyana Prize for Fiction, Poetry and Drama, plus Best First Books in Fiction and Poetry; and the Guyana Prize for Literature Caribbean Award for Fiction, Poetry and Drama. The judging process progresses for these and we are scheduled to announce the shortlists in late July (around July 24, 2015), with the awards presentations targeted for late middle August (around August 16, 2015).

The Guyana Prize will also continue with its series of writers’ workshops, and will be benefiting from a wide range of expertise, including international writers. There are Summer workshops with more extensive work afforded. The next activity will be advertised shortly.

Yours faithfully,
Al Creighton
