Ramjattan asked whether the AFC executive wanted to put party first or Guyana first

Dear Editor,

Please allow me to extend my congratulations to the winners of the 2015 general elections − APNU+AFC. This fight was not only about sacrifice, but about wise, strong and dynamic leadership. Leadership of quality is what made this coalition happen and because of that leadership, we see the dawn of a brand new day in Guyana.

The AFC had hard times leading up to the coalition; some differed on the issue. We sat and thought hard as to what is best for Guyana and our people. At the end the Leader of the AFC who stands by his words at all times and always puts Guyana first asked a question two minutes before the deadline to make the decision at our NEC meeting, and that question was, “Do you want to put the agenda of the AFC first or put Guyana first?”

The entire room was filled with silence. What is wrong with putting Guyana first? That is always what the AFC wanted − Guyana first. So we had to make a decision for Guyana and not for the party executives and members alone.

Mr Khemraj Ramjattan, who is a selfless politician, made us all realize that Guyana is ours and we need the best for it. This is unlike some politicians in the opposition who think that Guyana belongs to them alone. So a partnership for national unity between the APNU and the AFC was the wisest thing that ever happened to Guyana. This coalition owes respect to Mr Ramjattan for his outstanding and dynamic leadership.

The PPP/C called the AFC all kinds of names, while they preached the race game in the Indian communities. The PPP/C executives verbally abused executives of the AFC but we held our heads high and did nothing. All that is because we have a strong leader who has instilled in us leadership qualities. This is not like the PPP/C which lost the elections but is claiming that they won. Imagine these PPP/C leaders talk of the democratic rights of Guyanese and now that Guyanese have made the change and elected a new government freely and fairly, they are ‘cussing down’ the citizens of the land.

I must congratulate Mr Ramjattan for his inspirational leadership qualities and the rest of the AFC executives and members for making the wisest decision by putting Guyana first. This change came with unity, and in unity there is strength.

Yours faithfully,
Abel Seetaram
