Those who passed customs-broker exams in October 2014 still waiting for licences

Dear Editor,

I would like to know when the licences for persons who successfully completed the customs-broker exams, written in October of 2014 will be issued. Relevant documents and information that were requested to facilitate the issuance of the licence have been submitted in addition to which an investigation by the Enforcement Unit was carried out almost two months ago.

It’s almost 6 months into 2015 so I’m wondering if we have to wait until October to be issued with the licence after spending hours going to classes, money from our pockets to purchase the relevant reading material and most importantly, sleepless nights studying.

Whenever visits or calls are made to the GRA you’re being told that it’s with the Commissioner and you have to wait. I don’t know if Mr Khurshid Sattaur is aware, but when you approach persons to try to solicit customs work they are not too keen on doing business with you since they don’t see a licence. Many of us did this course so that we can provide for ourselves and our families.

I am therefore kindly asking that we be advised as to when this licence will be made available to us because most of us depend on this business for our survival.

Yours faithfully,
