Who is giving Ramjattan ‘basket fuh fetch water’?

Dear Editor,

The records will reveal that since the death of Monica Reece in 1993, Guyana has never been the same again. In 1993, the homicide rate was 14 per 100,000 (meaning that for every 100,000 persons resident in Guyana, 14 of them died because of criminal acts). Even in the days of “mo fiya slow fiya street protest in 1998, the homicide rate in Guyana was at its lowest level ‒ 11.

The first sign of a major upsurge was in 2002, when the homicide rate shot up to 19. Who was the Minister and the President in 2002? Mr Ronald Gajraj and Mr Bharat Jagdeo, respectively. When we thought that we had seen the worst under the Gajraj and Jagdeo leadership in 2003 the homicide rate climbed to one of the higher rates in the Caribbean – 28. At the end of 2014, the homicide rate under Mr Rohee’s watch was 18. By the time he handed over power on May 15, the homicide rate was 21.

So who is really giving Minister Khemraj Ramjattan “basket fuh fetch water”?

Mr Rohee has no credibility.

Yours faithfully,
Carl Beaton
