Before the election I heard a senior member of this new government say on national TV that the Vreed-en-Hoop-Georgetown crossing is a disgrace and not fit for humans. I agree with him. I finally heard someone speak out about the steps which are slippery, especially when the rain falls. A lot of passengers have hurt themselves on those steps.
Well, since he is now a senior minister in this government, what is he going to do about these dangerous steps the people are presently using. The Parika and Bartica speedboat steps are actually in the same state too.
The Parika Stelling is one of the busiest stellings in Guyana. It operates 24/7 daily. From there you go to Leguan, Supenaam, Wakenaam, the Essequibo Coast, the North West, Venezuela, Bartica, the interior and many other places. Why is it that when you go to the stelling there are so many obstacles blocking path, like stalls and vehicles. I cannot complain about the staff; they always try to help out, but they need more space in which to operate.
What about the PA set on the stelling? Is it working? Whenever a speedboat arrives at Parika the taxi drivers and touts storm the deck of the speedboat blocking the passengers asking them ‘Taxi, taxi, taxi’, ‘Any help with your luggage?’ This causes terrible confusion on the boat deck where a passenger could easily slip overboard.
Why is the MV Makouria always breakingdown? And when is this new ferry boat for the North West arriving?
In closing I must compliment the clerks in charge at Bartica and at Parika and say they should keep up the good work. All the best to the new government and I do hope they look at these issues early.
