Peace be unto you.
On August 24, SN carried a letter I shared about the performance of Marian in the CXC exams. That letter was also sent to the Catholic Standard, which carried it as a news item.
Lo and behold, I fielded a call from an irate (very irate) mother, who was upset at her son’s name not being given more ink and prominence in the Standard, and left out altogether from SN. I was taken aback at the vehemence of the call, which was followed up by an email seeking me to “correct” through another letter to SN. I refused.
I refused when I heard words such as “bias” and “slanted” hurled in my direction -me, a private citizen doing a public service. A woman invades the sanctity of my home to question my integrity. And why? Because this woman’s son was not given his proper recognition. It becomes a life and death matter. I believe that there will be some writing to the media to spotlight that shortcoming and “bias” on my part. I will not let anyone use me for their self-promotion.
Regardless, I am shocked at what exists in this society, and I am not talking about dirty politics. I can imagine what it is like for you folks in your daily role.
