ADELAIDE, Australia, CMC – Darren Sammy failed with the bat and Kieron Pollard had little to do as his Adelaide Strikers easily defeated Hobart Hurricanes by eight wickets in the Big Bash League here yesterday.
Opting to bat first at the Adelaide Oval, Hobart were held to 136 for eight off their allotted 20 overs with Jonathan Wells top-scoring with an unbeaten 58 from 36 balls, which included five fours and two sixes.
English opener Alex Hales chipped in with 29 while Sammy, batting at number seven, faced four balls before being bowled over for one by speedster Shaun Tait who picked up three for 22 from his four overs.
In reply, Adelaide strolled to their target with 33 balls to spare, thanks to half-centuries from opener Tim Ludeman (54) and Jono Dean (54 not out). The pair put on 75 for the second wicket.
Pollard entered at the fall of the second wicket, and helped see Adelaide to victory with seven not out off two balls.
He blasted the first ball he received over square leg for six off seamer Ben Hilfenhaus, before Dean fittingly ended the game two balls later with a similar shot over square.
Sammy was impressive with the ball, snaring one wicket from three frugal overs which cost just ten runs.
