Howard to begin distribution of GCANA gear this weekend

Recently, the Guyana Cycling Association of North America (GCANA) donated a quantity of cycling gear to their local representative William Howard to be distributed to local cyclists in need of the equipment.

According to Howard, the GCANA is made up of former national cyclists who now reside overseas.

Among the members of GCANA are Neville Hunte, Victor Rutherford, Cyril Hunte, Randolph Toussaint, Aubrey Gordon and Jolyon Joseph.

“They’ve been doing this for a long time,” said Howard who added that the members of the organization all distinguished former national riders simply wanted to give back to cycling.

“They are trying to give something back even if it’s in a small way,” he added.

GCANA member Rutherford was in Guyana late last year and early this year and handed over the gear to GCANA local representative Howard for distribution. Howard said the gear consisted of some clothing and a few cycle parts and is mainly for the less fortunate cyclists to be used for training purposes.

He noted that most of the cyclists are attached to clubs and usually use their club uniforms when participating in competitions. Nevertheless, Howard said the gear can be used training and preparation for competitions.

He said he plans to start handing over the equipment this Saturday and Sunday at cycle events in the National Park and Berbice.
