PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC– West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree has been appointed assistant coach of PowerGen Penal Sports club, a dominant force in Trinidad and Tobago cricket over the years.

PowerGen failed to win any silverware last year and Badree is hoping he can help turn the club’s fortunes around this year.

“This is where I started and this is the only team I have played with in Trinidad and Tobago cricket so I am looking to give back to the club and this is one way I can do that,” said Badree.

“They were looking for someone to help out with the development of the club and with the amount of cricketers we have, it was difficult for one person to oversee so many players so they needed some help and I was willing to help so they gave it to me”.

The T&T leg-spinner has played in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royal and is one of the retained players in the Caribbean Premier League franchise the Red Steel.

“Spin has been our strength and we are looking to capitalise on that and continue churning out quality spinners through our development programme,” said Badree who has also played in the Bangladesh Premier League and was part of the West Indies side that won the ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka in 2012.

“I am trying to bring the wealth of experience I have accumulated in playing in different leagues around the world and to improve the development of players in the club”.
