Santos, GFC book place in next round of Frank Watson Memorial tournament

Santos FC and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) secured penalty shoot-out wins to book their place in the next round when the u-15 section of the Frank Watson Memorial u-15 and tourney commenced yesterday.

Played at the GFC ground, Santos overcame Renaissance FC by a 3-1 score line on penalty kicks after the 30 minute normal time finished with the score locked at 1-1.

Prior to the spot-kicks, Mario Eastman gave Renaissance the initial lead in the 34th minute, curling his 22 yard free kick from the centre of the field into the left hand corner.

However, Santos would level the score line two minutes onward as Ryan Dowden found the back of the net with a right-footed strike into the lower left-hand corner, after latching onto the ball within the centre of the penalty area.

The GFC side then defeated Black Pearl 3-1 on penalty kicks after normal time finished 2-2. Randy Small and Matthew Harrison scored for the hosts in the 21st and 28th minutes respectively.

Briefly giving the visitors the early lead was Gary Jardine and Orlan Adams in the 15th and 20th minute.

In the other matchups, Western Tigers and Sunburst Camptown secured walkover victories against Houston Stars and Flamingo FC respectively.

Similarly earning a walkover win was Riddim Squad who defeated Black Water FC. The tourney is set to continue today at the same venue with the u-17 competition.
