Stevedore Scheme record upset win over Leopold Street

Stevedore Housing Scheme upset Leopold Street by a 2-0 score line when the preliminary round of the Sparta Boss First Anniversary Street Football tourney concluded on Friday at the Sparta Boss Tarmac in East La Penitence.

Witnessed by a sizable viewership, Stevedore took the lead in the very first minute of play as a Quason Winter effort from the right side of the park, took a deflection off the final Leopold Street defender and rolled into the back of the net.

The upset would then be completed in the eighth minute as Corwin Filter etched his name on the scorer’s sheet, lashing his right footed effort from the right wing into the lower left hand corner of the goal.

The third matchup witnessed North Ruimveldt edging Sparta Kids by a 1-0 margin. Jamal Hamilton settled the showdown in the 12th minute with a right footed first strike into the left corner after latching onto a pass while racing down the right side of the tarmac.

In the third fixture of the night, Back Circle downed Wellington Warriors 2-0 compliments of a Kevin Boters double. The diminutive attacker broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, placing his right footed strike into the left corner from the right side of the field.

Boters then sealed the victory in the 18th minute with a shot into the left corner of the net from the centre of the tarmac. The opening fixture saw, North East La Penitence edging Unruly Kids 2-1 on sudden death kicks.

With normal and extra time unable to find a winner at 0-0. North East La Penitence would start off the shoot-out in the worst possible manner as they missed from the distance. Unruly Kids would then take a 1-0 lead as they scored in their first attempt from the spot.

North East La Penitence would then level the score line, netting in their second strike from the mark while Unruly Kids missed from the distance. The fixture then moved into the sudden death region as both sides missed in their third and final strikes from the mark.

North East La Penitence would then take the lead for the first time in the fixture as they scored in the fourth round of the shoot-out. Needing to score to force the matchup into the fifth round, Unruly Kids would surrender the fixture as they missed from the distance.

Winner of the tourney will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy while the second and third placed sides will receive $150,000 and $50,000 respectively along with the corresponding accolade.

The knockout round of the tourney is slated to commence on Wednesday 25th at the same venue.
