During a press briefing yesterday at the entity’s boardroom in Charlotte Street, company official, Anjuli Beharry-Strand presented a cheque to President of the union, Peter Green valued at $US10, 000.

The funds will be used to offset the expenses of the men’s 7s team during the two-day NACRA Rio 2016 Olympic Qualifier from June 13 in Raleigh, N.C, USA.

According to Patron of the union, Kit Nascimento, “it is by far the highest private sector sponsorship that we have so far been able to receive.”

Nascimento who is tasked with acquiring funds for Guyana’s premier outdoor sports team, then challenged other companies to match the US$10,000 that Beharry Group of Companies has awarded to the union.

Beharry-Strand stated that “it is an honour and a pleasure to sponsor the rugby team again. Their dedication and their passion for the sport is the reasons why we continue to support them.”

Before the team travels to Raleigh, North Carolina to compete in the Olympic Qualifier, they will play on home soil with a NACRA 15s matchup versus Barbados on March 7. The NACRA 15’s champions then tackles Trinidad and Tobago in an away game on April 11. Once the national outfit is victorious in the above encounters, they will play the winner of the Northern Zone for the overall NACRA 15s title in a home game on April 25.

The Jaguars will then travel to Hong Kong to compete in the prestigious HSBC Hong Kong 7s tournament scheduled for March 27-29.
