Four swimmers strike gold as GASA Long Course meet commences

Nikhil Ramnarine, Leon Seaton, Aleka Persaud and Paul Mahaica all captured gold medals when the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association’s Long Course meet got underway yesterday at the National Aquatic Centre, at Pattensen.

The Long Course Swim Meet, which is called also the Mashramani meet, is the association’s first event for the year and is being used as a time trial for the CARIFTA 2015 Swimming Championship to be held in Barbados in April. Persaud, swimming in the Girls eight years and under category, swam away with the gold medal in the 50m Butterfly, the 50m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle events.

Also winning gold in the Boys eight years and Under category was Mahaica who won gold in the 50 Butterfly,50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle events.

Sekhel Tzedeq won gold in the Boys 11-12, 400m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle events while Jadyn George swimming in the Girls 11-12 age group took Gold in the 100m Freestyle event.

Ramnarine, of the Swim Academy Sea Otters won his first gold medal in the Boys 11-12, 50m Breaststroke while Seaton, of Silver Sharks, captured Gold in the 50m Butterfly,50m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle events in the Boys 9-10 age group.

Prior to the staging of the events, there were presentations from the president of CONSONAT Juan Carlos, vice president of FINA Dale Newburger and GASA president Ivan Persaud.
