GDF mauled 7-1 by T&T club

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) got their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship off to the worst possible start, losing to Trinidad and Tobago unit DirecTV W-Connection 7-1 on Wednesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in the Twin Island Republic.

Fielding a starting XI consisting of Derick Carter (GK), Seon Prince, Selwyn Isaacs (C), Eusi Phillips, Nigel Braithwaite, Desford Williams, Delwyn Fraser, Keon Caesar, Eon Alleyne, Glenorvan Edmonds and Kenard Simon, the Guyanese would concede five goals in the opening period.

Akeem Garcia broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute while Shahdon Winchester netted a quick-fire double in the 23rd and 28th minutes to effectively end the contest. Hashim Arcia would then score in the 35th minute while Jerrel Britto completed the first half blitz with a 43rd minute effort.

Arcia would then seal the result with a further two goals to complete his hat-trick in the 47th and 81st minutes respectively. GDF would eventually net a consolation goal compliments of a 93rd minute effort.

Due to the loss, GDF sit in the cellar position within the group. They will now oppose Spirited, Attitude and Performance (SAP) FC from Antigua and Barbuda on April 19th at the same venue in their final group fixture after Jamaica side Waterhouse pulled out of the event.

The final round of the event will be played from May 20th-25th in a knockout format to decide the overall winner. The top three teams during that section will earn places in the prestigious CONCACAF Champions League.
