Guyana’s basketballers to face Suriname

In preparation for the 2015 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship, the Guyana national men’s team will face off with rivals Suriname in a three-match international series in the neighbouring country.

The international tour which is slated commence on Friday May 1st and conclude on May 4th, will be held at the Anthony Nesty Indoor Stadium. Guyana will play their first game against their neighbouring counterparts at 21:00hrs local time on May 1st.

They will then compete in their second match at 20:00hrs the following day and will conclude their tour on Sunday May 3rd at 20:00hrs in their final fixture. Guyana will depart local shores for Suriname at 14:00hrs on the morning of May 1st. They are slated to return on Monday May 4th.

The 17-member touring party will consist of 12 players from the current national squad roster. The competing players will be selected on Sunday April 25th. The remaining members of the touring group will comprise coaches, managers and a referee.

Guyana is slated to compete in the 2015 CBC Championships in the British Virgin Islands from June 16th-20th. Presently, Guyana is positioned in group-A of the event alongside their impending foes, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas and Bermuda.

The two top teams in the group will qualify for the championship’s final four section. Guyana finished fifth at the 2014 edition of the CBC Championships held in the same nation.

Guyana in their recent international outing, swept CBC rival Bermuda 3-0 at home during the month of March. The GABF is currently seeking sponsorship from the Government, the Guyana Olympic Association and the Corporate Sector to help in funding the Men and Women’s team to the tourney.
