Golden Jaguars edged 0-1 by Suriname

Reduced to 10 men following the sending off of one of their key players, Guyana’s Golden Jaguars suffered their first loss in the third coming of Jamaal Shabazz, going under to Caribbean Football Union (CFU) rival Suriname by a 1-0 margin on Thursday at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium in Paramaribo.

The Golden Jaguars entered their fourth international friendly undefeated after securing 2-0 wins over Grenada and St. Lucia and drawing 2-2 with Barbados.

Opting to field a starting XI of goalkeeper Akel Clarke, defenders Colin Nelson, King Solomon Austin, Kris Camacho, Adrian Butters, midfielders Kanata Manning, Vurlon Mills, Nobrega, Dwain Jacobs and forwards Sheldon Holder and Pernell Schultz, the Golden Jaguars would quickly be reduced to 10 men as Nobrega was sent off for a perceived reckless challenge which resulted in his opposing number Miguel Cronje suffering a broken leg.

This numerical advantage would lead to Suriname taking the lead in the 29th minute as Gregory Rigters scored the eventual winner. Guyana’s previous loss to their Dutch rivals came almost five years prior on June 22nd 2008.
