T/dad crash to fourth defeat to England

BELFAST, Northern Ireland, CMC-Trinidad and Tobago’s senior netball team crashed to a 42-63 defeat against England in their opening match of the Netball Europe ranking competition and Open Championship here on Thursday.

It was the fourth straight loss for the ninth ranked Trinidadians against third ranked England after losing their recent Three Match Test Series, 3-0.

The Calypso netballers got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing 17-7 at the end of the first quarter at the Antrim Forum, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

However they fought back to trim the deficit to six goals, 26-20, in the second period, despite two injury changes before finishing the half trailing 28-20.

England stepped up their game in the third period, extending its lead to 47-32 before completing yet another comfortable win over its Caribbean opponent.

In the test series, T&T lost 69-36 in Liverpool on Monday, 67-42 last Friday in London, and 65-42 in the series opener in Somerset nine days ago.

T&T will look to end a four-match losing skid when it comes up against Wales on Friday ahead of clashes with Scotland and Ireland today before closing out against South Africa tomorrow.
