Hope to explain resignation later

Gavin Hope yesterday hinted that an explanation may be given later in the week for his abrupt resignation from his post as first Vice President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).

Hope, who was instrumental in raising funds for local and overseas based athletes to compete at international meets such as the CARIFTA Games, surprisingly tendered his resignation in a letter dated May, 22, 2015.

When Stabroek Sport contacted Hope yesterday, the former VP said that he wished not to disclose the reason/s for his voluntary departure from the association but that an explanation would be given “at a later date.”

Said Hope yesterday:“At this point I don’t want to give a reason for the resignation but I would have given it my best shot. I wish everybody in the organization all the best and I hope that they will continue to move the sport forward.”

Hope was elected to the post when the association which is under the presidency of Aubrey Hutson held their AGM in January, 2013.

Hope’s resignation letter is below:

Mr. Hutson

President of the Athletic Association of Guyana

Olympic House

Main Street

Dear Mr. Hutson,

It is with regret that I write to resign my position as First Vice-President effective May 31, 2015.

I am so appreciative of the opportunities and confidence entrusted in me while working for the development of athletics and the Athletics Association of Guyana.

I am grateful to have served in such an environment for the last few years. The challenges and successes endured during my active time in the organisation cannot be compared.

At this time, I would like to thank all the members of the central executive and all other persons whom I have worked closely to achieve the successes of the last two years. My small contributions could not have been meaningful without their support and similar commitment.

Once again, I thank you and wish you and all other members of the Athletics Association of Guyana, the best in the execution of your duties.

Best Regards,

Gavin Hope
