Wiltshire, Harding, Jonas win 

Junior squash championship

Shomari Wiltshire, Makeda Harding and Lucas Jonas were amongst the winners when the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Junior National Championships commenced on Wednesday at the Georgetown Club Facility on Camp Street.

Wiltshire defeated Dominic Collins in straights sets 11/1, 11/2, 11/4 in the u-13 boys division while Jonas crushed Nechemiyah Levans 11/3, 11/5, 11/0 in the second match of the section.

In the final match of the division, John Phang overcame Gianni Carpenter 6/11, 8/11, 11/2, 11/9, 11/7. On the other hand, Harding brushed aside Kirsten Gomes in straight sets 11/1, 11/2, 11/3 in their u-13 divisional matchup.

Continuing in the u-13 girls section, Madison Fernandes defeated Teija Edwards 11/1, 11/2, 11/0 while Aaliyah Persaud overcame Abosaide Cadogan 15/13, 11/5, 6/11, 11/8.

In the girl’s u-11 division, Kirsten Gomes dismantled Paige Fernandes in straight sets 11/4, 11/2/11/3 while Haley Carpenter got the better of Beau Fernandes 11/2, 11/5, 11/5 in the final fixture of the section.

The novices section witnessed Nathan Rahaman defeating Mashal Allicock 11/4, 11/5. 18/16 while Kamir Khan dismissed Liam Carpenter 11/3, 11/4, 11/7. In the final matchup of the division, Jason Gomes brushed aside James Mekdeci 11/4, 11/9, 11/3.

In the boy’s u-9 category, Mohryan Baksh defeated Noah Rahaman 11/3, 11/3, 11/4 while Wade Beckles lost to Louis DaSilva 5/11, 5/11, 6/11. The final matchup of the section saw Chad DeAbreu defeating Shiloh Asregado 11/2, 11/5, 11/10.

Action in the tournament is slated to continue today at the same venue from 18:00hrs.
