Head-Coach of the Guyana National men’s basketball team Darcel Harris said yesterday that his charges are well prepared for the 2015 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships currently ongoing in the British Virgin Islands.
In an invited comment prior to his team’s departure today, Harris said: “We got everything we asked for in terms of preparation. The Sports Hall was made available and we had morning and evening sessions for more than a week which I think was enough for us to be mentally and physically prepared.
With the women’s team losing all three of their group matches it will be up to the men’s team to gain some measure of respect for Guyana’s basketball regionally and, according to Harris he has high expectations for this year’s tournament.
“Going into the games, expectations are high, it’s just a matter of players showing maturity and discipline to help us come out victorious,” he added.
In preparing for the tournament the team played against Bermuda and won but lost to Suriname and Harris that those results would not count this time around.
“We also have to remember that Suriname and Bermuda played us recently and will coming with a different game plan, so we have to come with a better plan ourselves to conquer them. We will be taking it step-by-step, game-by-game. We want to qualify and come out of the group stage and take it from there,” he added.
Guyana will compete in group-A along with Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas and Bermuda. The two top teams in the group will qualify for the championship’s final four section.
Guyana finished fifth at the 2014 edition of the CBC Championships held in the same nation.
