CPL match causes b/building c/ships to be pushed back a day

The Supligen Senior Bodybuilding Championships initially billed for July 18 has been pushed back by one day.

Reason? To avoid clashing with the `Biggest party in Sport.’

According to executives of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF), the championships will be held on July 19 at the Park Vue Hotel at Farm, E.B.D instead of the original July 18 date, the same day Guyana hosts the Barbados Tridents in their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) game at the National Stadium.

During the event’s official launch on May 30, Organising Secretary of the federation, Videsh Sookram opined that this year’s competition is shaping up to be the “most competitive one in the last decade”.

Sookram stated that two-time Mr. Guyana, Kerwin Clarke will have his hands filled with musclemen like the reigning Flex Night champion, Godfrey Stoby and last year’s Novices champion, Sylvester Andrews and the likes of Clint Duke, Marlon Bennett, Alex Hamilton and three-time CAC gold medalist, Devon Davis.

The federation’s organizing secretary also disclosed that for the first time on the senior’s stage, the Men’s Physique category will be contested. As customary, the Ms. Bikini and the Ms. Body Fitness segments will also be included.

Prizes

President of the GBBFF, Keavon Bess revealed that the top three athletes for each bodybuilding category will be rewarded while in the same breath highlighting that the overall champion will pocket $100,000, a trophy and a supplement hamper.

According to Bess, the winners of the Men’s Physique, Ms. Bikini and the Ms. Body Fitness categories will take home $50,000 each along with trophies and supplement hampers.

To add some international flavour and excitement to the event, the federation has recruited 16-time CAC welterweight champion, Hostin Worrel.

Affectionately called ‘Biscuit’, the Barbadian bodybuilder has posed and flexed his way to numerous titles. They include Mr. Barbados, Mr. Bridgetown, Mr. St Michael, Mr. Darcy Beckles (six times), winner of the Sports World Invitation Classic (welterweight) and did we mention 16 time CAC welterweight champion?

The championships starts at 19:00hrs and admission will be $1500.
