St Rose’s downs Bishops’ High in YBG basketball

St. Rose’s High continued their impressing showing in the Georgetown Zone of Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National School Basketball Festival, downing rivals the Bishops’ High 59-46 on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Sharp-shooter Nathan Saul led way for the winners with a game-high 24 points along with four rebounds and as many steals. He was supported by Stephan Joseph who recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Daniel Haynes led the scoring for Bishops’ High with 18 points and nine rebounds while Timothy Thompson registered a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds.

In the U16 section, Marian Academy crushed North Georgetown 61-25. Joshua Brazoa recorded a double-double of 14 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in the win while Jahleel Young supported with 14 points and seven rebounds.

For the losers, Devon Hazel netted seven points and as many rebounds. Continuing in the same section, St. Joseph’s High crushed Christ Church Secondary 35-17. Shamar Spooner netted 12 points and five rebounds in the win.

He was supported by Scott Garraway who netted six points and grabbed four rebounds. The final game of the section witnessed Queen’s College edging St. John’s College by a 26-16 score line.

Omari Joseph top scored with 22 points and eight rebounds in the win while Andre Jagnandan was the other scorer with four points. On the other side, Nicholas Clarke netted 13 points and grabbed five rebounds.

The lone U14 divisional matchup saw St. Rose’s High dismantling the Trust College by a 44-6 margin. Anthony Yansen led the assault with 12 points and eight rebounds while Trevon Miller provided support with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Netting four points and grabbing three rebounds in the loss was Eze Baird. The action continues at the same venue this Saturday with another round of matches.
