Ivan to skipper Port Mourant T20 side for CARICOM fundraiser

Former national T20 selectee Rajiv Ivan will lead Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) m for the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) T20 fundraising competition billed as the “Caricom Championships.”

The big hitting all-rounder is set to head a team named Monday by the BCB selectors which comprises several young and talented cricketers who have represented Berbice and Guyana at different youth levels. The batting department will be spearheaded by Ivan, Troy Gonsalves, another big hitting all-rounder, Parmanand Narine, Arif Chan, newcomer Avishkar Sewkarran, Samuel Kisnasammy, Joshua Ramsammy and former West Indies youth player Chanderpaul Hemraj.

The bowling attack will be led by Demetri Cameron, Yudendra Harrinarine, Lloydel Lewis and Gonsalves.

The full team reads: Rajiv Ivan (captain), Parmanand Narine, Arif Chan, Joshua Ramsammy, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Yudendra Harinarine, Omesh Mathura, Demetri Cameron, Andy Mohan, Samuel Kishnasammy, Lloydel Lewis, Troy Gonsalves, Avishkar Sewkarran and Nicholas Cameron. The Caricom T20 Championship will take place on July 5th at the Albion Community Development Centre ground.

According to a press release, the aim of the event is to organise a high-quality, three-day competition which will be played at the said venue. The Caricom Championship will see the top eight T20 first-division teams in Berbice taking part in a 10 overs knockout competition. The final will be 20-overs-a-side and will be played under lights for a top prize of $80,000.00 and trophy. The runner up will receive $40,000.00 and trophy with the losing semi-finalists $15,000.00 each.

Man of the match in every game will be rewarded. Action is scheduled to commence at 10am sharp.

The teams are: Upper Corentyne/Skeldon, Port Mourant, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Albion, Young Warriors/Edinburg/Rose Hall Center, Police/Bermine, Blairmont/West Berbice and Bush Lot/D’Edward.

According to the BCB, all of the teams were selected so that all the top players in Berbice will be on show.

Many gate prizes will be up for grab for the fans. To promote the game, 15 passes each will be given to eight schools in the Lower Corentyne area.
