Seniors to sizzle with Men’s Physique debut

With only two weeks remaining it is almost show time for the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation’s flagship event the Senior National Championships.

Bodybuilders and physique athletes are on the homestretch run, dialing up the figures on their bodies through strict diet and workout regimen in an effort to present an award winning package come July 19 at the Park Vue Hotel.

The fitness community, local gyms, barbershops and even salons have been buzzing with anticipation of the Supligen Mr. Guyana event.

Not only will the nation’s best physiques turn the stage into their battleground, but for the first time, the flourishing Men’s Physique segment will be contested on the Senior stage.

Aesthetics, symmetry, muscularity, confidence and of course brightly coloured boardshorts will be present.

Patrons at the venue can look forward to local hunks posing and flexing their V tapered physiques in a showdown of the ‘battle of the board shorts’.

The rules of the division state that the judges are looking for “fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition.”

Extreme muscularity is to be marked down.

The keys to victory are simple aesthetics: symmetry, presentation, conditioning without being too vascular, and shredded muscles. Whoever brings it best will win.

Like any new division, it will have some growing pains. The judges will have the unique opportunity this year to set the standard for what they deem the ideal physique in the division.

BodyMaxx’s Emmerson Campbell, Yannick Grimes, Fitness Paradise’s Caerus Cipriani and Tej Mohall Fitness Centre’s Chaitram Nagessar are some of the known competitors vying for the title of the first ever Senior Men’s Physique champion.

Look for the guys to be dialed in, with their V-tapers and their robust stage personality. Everybody wants to win, so you can be sure the whole field will ‘bring their best package’.

On the highly anticipated night, musclemen and women will compete for cash prizes, trophies and supplement hampers.

Organizing Secretary of the federation, Videsh Sookram opined that this year’s competition is shaping up to be the “most competitive one in the last decade”.

Sookram stated that two-time Mr. Guyana, Kerwin Clarke will have his hands full with musclemen like the reigning Flex Night champion, Godfrey Stoby and last year’s Novices champion, Sylvester Andrews and the likes of Clint Duke, Marlon Bennett, Alex Hamilton and three-time CAC gold medalist, Devon Davis competing.

As customary, the Ms. Bikini and the Ms. Body Fitness segments will also be included.

To add some international flavour and excitement to the event, the federation has recruited 16-time CAC welterweight champion, Hostin Worrel.

Affectionately called ‘Biscuit’, the Barbadian bodybuilder has posed and flexed his way to numerous titles. They include Mr. Barbados, Mr. Bridgetown, Mr. St Michael, Mr. Darcy Beckles (six times), winner of the Sports World Invitation Classic (welterweight) and did we mention 16 time CAC welterweight champion?

The championships starts at 19:00hrs and admission is listed at $1500.
