Scotiabank, DCC team up to provide gear for club’s national youth players

Scotiabank yesterday teamed up with the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to provide gear for DCC players that make the national youth teams.

“We have a partnership that has now started with DCC in particular for the youth cricketers in that club. The club approached us to look at financing for particular areas in which the kids can achieve certain objectives, so this presentation is a reflection of that conversation that has started,” said Brian Hackett, manager of the bank’s Rob Street facility.

According to Hackett, the initiative was simply to help players to be properly outfitted and have the appropriate cricket gear to do well for DCC and Guyana.

Scotiabank yesterday donated more than $260,000 at a brief handing over ceremony at the bank’s Robb Street location.

Hackett confirmed that the bank was willing to work closer with DCC and continue the venture on a greater scale.

“This venture is to ensure they get the right gear to play the game and that’s the initial stage of the process and the next stage we will have a collaborative effort in making sure they can play at the next level with our support but we want to identify some of the players who we will be supporting and from that we will go to the next level,” he said.

DCC President Alfred Mentore said that the venture between the two entities will benefit the club, the players and Guyana.

“This venture is very important to clothe our youngsters and to ensure they are well-equipped for tournaments. We are thankful not only for Scotiabank but the other sponsors who came aboard to ensure our youngsters are well outfitted for national duties.”

National U15 batsman Alphius Bookie thanked the bank on behalf of his club and teammates for the assistance.

“This is really good because without the support of Scotiabank and the other sponsors we would not be able to have the gear and proper facilities for us to play proper cricket and I know the other players will be proud of this achievement that has happened,” he declared.

Other sponsors who recently came onboard with donations of bats, boots, gloves and other pieces of equipment for the young DCC players include (Lennox Cush ) Star Party Rental, (Bish Panday) P&P Insurance Brokers, Lifetime Real Estate, (Robert Hanoman) Normac Inc., (Ryan Shivraj) Buddy’s Pool Hall, (Brian Glasford) Caribbean Clothing and (Patrick Harding) West Kaburi Mining.

Twelve DCC players were selected to represent Guyana some at the Regional U17 tournament which bowled off yesterday in Trinidad and Tobago and others for the upcoming U15 tournament billed in Guyana as well as the Regional U19 tournament in Jamaica.
