Organisers promise successful leg of HCPL in Guyana

Local coordinators of the Hero CPL yesterday promised a fun-filled yet safe leg the tournament which bowls off tomorrow at the Guyana National Stadium.

Police Commander of `A’ Division Clifton Hicken, ex-Police Commander George Vyphuis, Local Events Operations Officer of OPCO Kirk Douglas among others, yesterday stated that the security level will indeed be high.

“We are about 90 percent there and we have been preparing for this for a while now so we are confident of delivering what we expect to be a very successful leg of the Caribbean Premier League,” Douglas explained at a brief media held at the boardroom of the Guyana National Stadium.

Vyphius, the Safety and Security Manager said the next week plays an important role in the success of the tournament.

He said that the support from the Guyana Police Force along with his private security group has been pivotal in setting effective strategies for traffic and patron control.

However, the former `A’ Division Commander stated that plans can only be effective once adhered to in a respectful manner.

Speaking on access to the stadium, the former top officer said that accredited person and ticket holders were the only two means permitted.

Hicken noted that special traffic arrangements will be put in place to ensure a smooth ride during the next few days.

He asked Guyanese to act responsibly and cooperate with the local police so that Guyana’s leg of the tournament can be “incident-free events”.

The list of prohibited items includes: firearms, weapons, knives and imitation weapons, fireworks, explosives, flammable items, mace/ gas containers, no glass bottles and no branded plastic bottles other than League sponsors are allowed into the stadium, alcohol, illegal drugs or narcotics, animals (except guide dogs), tripods for cameras.

The management of the event reserves the right to refuse entry to any person carrying or wearing any other items or substances that may be deemed to be offensive, disruptive, dangerous or likely to infringe any party’s rights or any party’s safety or security or any dangerous article or substance not referred to above, it was stated.

The restricted items are: Umbrellas: collapsible personal umbrellas, 12 x 12 x 12 coolers will be allowed subject to check prior to entrance into the stadium, own foodstuff (with plastic cutlery), cameras for recreational and personal non-commercial use only balls, bats.

Banners and flags up to a maximum size of 1.5m 1m (5’x3’) provided that, in the opinion of the management they are not vulgar, political, racial, discriminatory, sexual in nature, or display advertising which may in any way impinge or will be in conflict with the rights of the partners/sponsors/suppliers/vendors of the event (in any language) or deemed to be offensive or impact on the view of other spectators.

Flag poles (sticks) may not protrude more than a hand’s breadth below the flag small radios, CD/ DVD/MP3 players.

Glass containers: Perfume, prescription medication or insect repellent bottles only.

Aerosol deodorant, medication or insect repellent only. Cigarette lighters/ matches (these may be prohibited in some venues.

Stadium Staff Coordinator, Sabrina Panday “ said some 125 perosnell staff will be divided into twelve groups for the execution of plans.

Parking will available outside the stadium between the stadium and Princess hotelas well in the parking lot of the stadium.

Patrons will need to pay just $500 for the outside parking and $1000 to park in the stadium.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will play their first home game of this year’s Caribbean Premier League tomorrow when they face off against the Jamaica Tallawahs at the National Stadium, starting at 18:00 hrs.
