Wiltshire siblings Akeila, Shomari strike gold

Akeila Wiltshire and Shomari Wiltshire were crowned the U19 and U13 individual champs respectively when the 33rd Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) championship continued in Barbados yesterday.

 

In the all Guyanese finale, Akeila Wiltshire downed Gabrielle Fraser in straight sets 11-0, 11-8, 11-8 to walk away with the championship. On the other hand, the younger Shomari defeated Charlie Riker of Bermuda in similar fashion by a 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 score line.

In the boys U17 final, Ben Mekdeci fell just short as he went down to Josiah Griffith of Barbados in straight sets 12-10, 11-3, 11-2. Similarly in the girls U15 final, Meagan Best of Barbados defeated Makeda Harding 11-1, 11-2, 11-0.

In the other U19 female fixtures, Larissa Wiltshire defeated Mary Mahfood of Jamaica 8-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7 while Taylor Fernandes defeated Lara Conolly of the Cayman Islands 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 7-11, 11-7 and Marion Faith Gillezeau of Trinidad and Tobago in straight sets 11-7, 13-11, 11-5.

In the girls U13 division, Lauren Fullerton of Cayman Islands defeated Madison Fernandes 11-4, 11-5, 11-9 and Kirsten Gomes 5-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-3.

Also recording wins in the division was Aliyah Persaud who defeated Nicola De Verteuil of Trinidad and Tobago 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 and Gomes who downed Chloe Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 13-11.

In the U17 girls section, Thandi Myers of Eastern Caribbean States defeated Rebecca Low 11-4, 6-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-3 and Emma Turnbull of Cayman Islands defeated Sarah Lewis 12-10, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7.

In the boys U15 section, Taylor Carrick of Bermuda defeated Anthony Islam 13-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8 while Jasun Sairsingh defeated Daniel Islam 12-10, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5.

In the other boys u-13 matches, Jace Jervis of Cayman Islands defeated Samuel Ince-Carvahal 11-9, 11-9, 10-12, 10-12, 12-10 and Justin Lilico 12-10, 11-0, 8-11, 11-3. The final result of the section saw Lilico defeating Javan Seale of Barbados 11-5, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10.

The other result of the U17 boys section saw Luke Roberts of Jamaica edging Alexander Cheeks 11-7, 14-12, 6-11, 11-8. The event will now progress to the team tournament section.
