Winston George places sixth

Guyana’s last hope of medalling at this year’s ongoing Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, Winston George placed sixth in the final of the Men’s 400m event last night. George who was the only local athlete to make it past the qualifying rounds for any discipline, clocked 45.58s in the final which was won by Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic in 44.56s.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Machel Cedenio (44.70s) and the USA’s Kyle Clemons (44.84s) joined Santos on the podium. Team Guyana will return without a medal after contesting five disciplines (athletics, badminton, rugby, squash and swimming) during the July 10-26 Games.
