Waramadong Secondary comes up short yet again

——Defending champs Christianburg/Wismar through to fifth consecutive finals appearance

Defending three-time champs Christianburg/Wismar sealed their fifth consecutive finals appearance, crushing Waramadong Secondary 4-0 in their semi-final affair when the fifth annual Digicel Secondary Schools championship continued yesterday.

Hyped initially as a clash of the titans, the fifth fixture between the teams failed to live up to its billing as the Lindeners quickly relegated the match to a no contest affair at the Leonora Sports Facility.

Omar Brewley banged in a double in the 17th and 27th minutes while Dequan Hercules opened the scoring in the fifth minute and Kendolph Lewis scored in the 85th minute to secure the fifth consecutive win for the Lindeners against Waramadong Secondary.

With the win, the titlists will now tackle Georgetown unit Chase Academy on Sunday August 2nd at the National Stadium in Providence following the latter’s 3-1 win over Annai Secondary in the other final four fixture.

Tasting defeat in their least four matches with holders, Waramadong Secondary got off to the worst possible start as a seemingly harmless left sided cross Hercules went straight through the hands of the custodian and into the right hand corner.

Brewley then put further distance between the two sides several minutes later, placing his effort into the right hand corner following a one-on-one situation within the centre of the box, after collecting a pass unchallenged.

The contest effectively was over 10 minutes later as Brewley recorded his second of the night, slotting home into the lower right hand corner, after collecting a flat left sided cross unmarked within the centre of the box.

Unable to fashion any meaningful attack for most of the fixture, Waramadong was given an opportunity to get back into the contest as they were awarded a penalty kick for a handball infraction within the box.

Tasked with taking the spot-kick, winger Ashton Ward failed to deliver the goods as he fired his effort directly at the keeper, much to the disappointment of his team-mates.

The defending champs eventually sealed the score line five minutes before the end as Lewis netted compliments of a flat strike into the lower left hand corner, after racing onto a pass at the top of the box.
