Premium to be placed on safety of Sunday’s horse race meet – organizer

A premium will be placed on the safety of turfites at the President’s Cup Horse Race Meet on Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club.

This is according to race organizer, Faizal Habibulla who told Stabroek Sport yesterday that safety measures are in place to ensure that fans stay off the track to avoid collisions with horses as was the case on August 16 at the Port Mourant Turf Club.

During the Guyana Cup meet at that venue, a thoroughbred, Jack In My Style collided with several patrons who were too close to the track.

“We have fences on both sides of the track and once the police do their work we won’t have accidents like that happening here”, said Habibulla.

He added that “There is more seating here at this venue and the fans would not have a problem seeing the race from their seats. You have a venue and you have to cater for a certain amount of people and I don’t think there is a track in Guyana that has this much seating capacity.”

Habibulla then opined that “We should have a good day” jokingly saying “Keep off the track Jack is back.” Princess She is Not, California Strike, and two-time Guyana Cup winner, CP Got Even will also compete in the C and Lower (8 furlong) event on Sunday which has attracted more than 80 entrants.

Starting time is 13:00hrs.
