Adams replaces Gouveia on ‘Brawl at the Mall’ undercard

Keeve Allicock’s opportunity to add more substance to his professional boxing ledger was today dealt a minor blow with the announcement that upcoming foe, Stephan Gouveia, had to withdraw from their September 26 bout due to work commitments.

Gouveia, who was scheduled to make his professional debut after a stellar amateur career was seen as an ideal step-up for the Harpy Eagle’s gym product who burst onto the professional scene on the ‘Caribbean Collision’ card in February.

However, match maker within the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Eon Jardine told Stabroek Sport yesterday that another debutant, Terrence Adams has decided to step up to the plate and replace Gouveia on the card dubbed ‘The Brawl at the Mall’.

Adams and Allicock will match gloves in a featherweight fight on the undercard of the event scheduled for four rounds at the Giftland Mall.

The undercard will feature also feature Imran Khan and Quincy Gomes.

Khan, a former amateur standout will face David Thomas in a four-round lightweight scrap while Anson Green and Quincy Gomes will match gloves in the co-feature. Their light welterweight matchup is scheduled for six rounds.

Meanwhile, the Pro Am card will be headlined by national welterweight champion, Iwan ‘Pure Gold’ Azore defending his title against Dexter ‘The Cobra’ Gonsalves.

The Azore/Gonsalves bout is planned for 12 rounds and will keep fight fans on the edge of their seats throughout the affair if it manages to go to the distance.

Azore (16-5-3) who resides in Trinidad and Tobago is the more polished and skillful fighter but the ‘Cobra’ (7-1-2) is a knockout artist with bone breaking power.

Just ask Mohamed Dawes, Revlon Lake and Mark Austin, the last three fighters the venomous puncher defeated within the distance.

More details on the upcoming card will be published in subsequent articles. (Emmerson Campbell)
